In contemporary societies, the rationalization process that takes place in the logic of the economic sphere is not alien to the emotional life of its members.

As never before in the past, people have within their reach a series of resources that would potentially allow the increase of the ability to abstract, categorize, weigh, speculate and evaluate one's own emotions and those of others, evaluate the time invested or to invest in a relationship both in quality and quantity and instrumentally examine the desirability of relationships with others in terms of cost and benefit.
